Healy’s work explores the unique facets of his individual characters and, in this way, illuminates the rich complexities of our collective human condition.
An inveterate “people watcher,” Ian Healy’s portraits focus on the neurotic eccentricities, unconscious behaviors and candid expression of strangers in public, especially when they are not self-aware and are just being themselves. Often drawing on humour to highlight and dramatise a person’s imperfections and awkwardness, Healy’s work explores the unique facets of his individual characters and, in this way, illuminates the rich complexities of our collective human condition. Healy’s characters all come from the melting pot that is “The Park”, a public space where all manner of people converge, relax into themselves, and reveal the curious aspects of who they are. A native of Ireland, Ian lives and works in Edinburgh, Scotland.
